Ryder Cup
results/report:
To help celebrate the Ryder Cup coming to Wales in 2010, Knighton Golf Club
held their own version of the famous trophy which was staged over two
Saturday's and played between the club's two main
nationalities. Over 50 members from the mens, ladies,
seniors and junior sections joined together as organisers, players, scorers,
caterers, etc, to enable the event to take place. And just to add a little
bit more excitement, on the intermediate Sunday, the real Ryder Cup was
flown in by helicopter to make a guest appearance whilst on it's whirlwind
tour of Welsh golf clubs.
In
part one of what will surely become known as the inaugural KGC Ryder Cup held on
Saturday 31st May, nine pairings were drawn to battle, and as can be seen on
the scoresheet below, some fine games took place with the Welsh winning out
5.5 to 3.5 on the day.

Saturday
7th June 2008 and it was the time for the singles. Twenty pairs took the fairways
and once again there was some superb games and as can be seen by the scoresheet below, it couldn't have been closer. Early on, it was the Welsh
that had turned the board red, but by mid-way the English had turned things
around. Things were looking bright on the English front until a late rally
saw the Welsh come back to draw the singles at ten-a-piece.

This of
course meant that the Welsh had accomplished a fine victory 15.5 to 13.5
which led to raucous celebrations (pictured below) and the obvious bit of
banter being issued to the English contingent.

All
later agreed that the event had been an outstanding success and unanimously
voted that it should be held again in 2009 and consideration be given to it
becoming an annual fixture.
