The eighth is one of the best holes of golf that
you will find on any course and probably the best chance on the course for a
birdie. A par five, you drive to a low bank, about 250 yards down the
fairway - be straight at all costs as you do not want to be blocked out by
the trees on the left and right. Then walk forward and take a look at the
green which sits about 200 yards ahead of you, down a very steep hill that
is covered in rough. You won't be able to see the green from your ball so
you need to pick your line very carefully - club members always put one of
their group up ahead to watch the flight of the ball and it's a good idea.
The ground slopes away to the left once you've carried the rough (about 150
yards of it). Don't be daunted by your second shot - it is, after all,
downhill and even if you don't manage to reach it, as long as you're
somewhere around the green you can still chip on and try for your birdie.
However, be thankful to walk off with a par as this has been a card wrecker
on many occasions for the golfer straying off-line.
